Stadium Renovations

As part of the District’s 10-year Master Facility Plan, major renovations to the Glenbrook North and Glenbrook South stadiums are planned for summer 2027, including:

  • New home and visitor bleachers and press boxes
  • New turf and track surfaces
  • Lighting, expanded restrooms and concessions, improved gathering areas, and renovated spaces for athletic operations.

The new bleachers will increase seating capacity, improve ADA accessibility and spectator circulation and provide enclosed space beneath the home bleachers for team rooms, restrooms, storage, technology and other event needs.

Because the bleacher systems require significant lead time for design and fabrication, this portion of the project was bid separately in advance of the remaining stadium work. JW Industries submitted the bid that meets all project requirements at a cost of $11,995,717, just under the district’s $12 million budget for the bleacher package.

The remaining approximately $34 million in stadium improvements will be bid with the other summer 2027 capital projects in late October and presented to the Board of Education for consideration on Dec. 14, 2026.

Construction Timeline

  • September 14, 2026 - The Board of Education approved the award of bids for the first phase of stadium renovations at Glenbrook North and Glenbrook South. This phase includes demolition of the existing home and visitor bleachers; fabrication and installation of new bleacher systems; construction of a waterproof substructure beneath the home bleachers; and installation of new press boxes.
  • November 2026 - Following the final home game of the season, temporary construction fencing will be installed around designated portions of each stadium to support construction activities. The home bleachers at both schools will then be demolished, allowing installation of the new home bleachers to begin. The new home bleachers are anticipated to be completed by the end of spring 2027. The track, turf and visitor bleachers will remain available to support the majority of the spring athletic season.
  • December 2026 - Construction access routes, staging, and parking areas will be established. Pedestrian and vehicle traffic patterns will also be adjusted as needed to safely accommodate construction equipment, workers, students, staff, and visitors.
  • January 2027 - Construction will begin on new facilities within the stadium footprint, including restrooms, concession stands, ticket booths, and other supporting structures. These will not be available for the spring season.
  • April 23, 2027 - The final date for athletes to use the stadiums.  After that date, the visitor bleachers, track, and stadium field will close for demolition and construction. Spring athletic activities that would typically use these areas will move to alternative locations. In addition, schedulers are shifting many competitions to be held “away.”
  • April and May, 2027: The athletic directors will maximize use of the auxiliary fields for all sports once the stadium is no longer available. Beyond using our facilities, they are in discussions with local park districts and other schools to accommodate sports that cannot be held on our auxiliary fields.
  • Summer 2027: Summer athletic camps will be held on all auxiliary fields at both campuses. The athletic directors are in discussions with individual head coaches to determine camp offerings and consider the potential use of off-site facilities.
  • Fall 2027 - Stadiums will be open for the first home football game.
