DRS provides two main benefits upon graduation: possible financial assistance for college/training or assistance in finding/maintaining employment. To qualify, a student must have an IEP or 504 Plan and a valid social security number. Students can be referred as early as 2nd semester sophomore year and as late as first semester senior year. For transition students, they can be referred during their senior year or first year of transition services. Not only is it a smoother process for students to be linked to DRS during high school, but our high school Special Education Department benefits financially, based on the number of open cases and those working in competitive employment.
