We have learned of a reported case of a District 225 family member (not a student) who has tested positive for Coronavirus (COVID-19). The Illinois Department of Public Health has determined that the parent has not been in our school buildings for more than two weeks, which is beyond the incubation period of the virus. Therefore, they do not recommend that staff or students (or their families) self-isolate at this time. With the number of cases in Illinois growing daily and our schools already being closed, we do not plan to communicate about each confirmation. We will, however, plan to communicate should the situation affect our ongoing services such as meal pick-up. We know that this announcement may cause alarm and we continue to encourage our district families to follow the Center for Disease Control (CDC) guidelines for prevention and symptom awareness. Additional information on the number of confirmed cases is available from official sources such as the Illinois and Cook County Departments of Public Health and the CDC. Our website provides links to various resources on COVID-19.

Late on Friday, March 13, Governor JB Pritzker issued an Executive Order mandating that all public and nonpublic schools close through March 30. These days are designated as Act of God Days. Prior to his announcement, we issued a notice to close our schools effective Monday, March 16, using designated Emergency Days prior to Spring Break, and begin E-Learning after Spring Break. The Emergency Days were to be made up at the end of the school year in June; however, the declaration by the Governor means these days will not need to be made up at the end of the school year. At this time we plan to begin E-Learning on Tuesday, March 31, pending any additional declaration from the government and will be sending out all necessary information for families via e-mail in the days prior.

Our teachers are working hard to plan valuable E-Learning experiences for our students and we look forward to launching this new learning environment. Expect additional communication and resources to prepare for E-Learning in a forthcoming email.
