CHILD DEVELOPMENT 161
GRADE: 9/10/11/12 LENGTH: 1 SEM.

This course introduces students to the development of the child from conception through birth. Topics such as teen pregnancy, preventing pregnancy, infertility, and heredity are discussed. Physical, mental, social and emotional development of the infant through toddler is included. The simulated infant (flour sack babies) is a key learning experience. Field trip to Lutheran General explorers careers in healthcare.

CHILD DEVELOPMENT 261
GRADE: 10/11/12 LENGTH: 1 SEM.

This laboratory course will provide students with an opportunity to observe, plan and direct activities of the Titan Tots enrolled in a 12-14 week preschool session at Glenbrook South. A variety of preschool and day care center experiences will be explored as well as visited. Prerequisite: Child Development 161 or permission of instructional supervisor.

GRADE: 11/12 LENGTH: 1 or 2 SEM.

This course provides an opportunity for students to explore career possibilities and assume an active role as they plan and direct learning activities for children in the local elementary school or assume a lead role in the Glenbrook South preschool. Both options require a student to be available period 5-6 and 5 could be a lunch or with period 6-7 and 6 could be a lunch. Students can participate all 4 semesters. Students must provide their own transportation for off-campus experience. Prerequisite: Child Development 261 and teacher recommendation. * See Oakton College articulation.
