ALL SCHOOL

 

Activity Bus: For those with after school activities, there will be an activity bus leaving from the front of the school at 5p, M-F.  Finish your activity, hop on the bus, and tell them where you live.  You will be dropped off near your destination.

 

Amnesty International: meets every Wednesday at 3:30p in room 212.  Come to help the cause for human rights and to have interesting conversations with creative people!  WARNING- there will be free food!

 

Cell Phone/MP3 Use: Students are allowed to use cell phones and MP3 players in school EXCEPT in classrooms, labs, study halls, and the library.   Phones and MP3 players must be turned off before entering a classroom, lab, study hall, or the library.  HEADPHONES OFF BEFORE ENTERING ANY CLASSROOM.    DO NOT leave your cell phone, MP3 player, book bag, etc., unattended at any time.  Save yourself the hassle of tracking down lost items by keeping them secure with you at all times.

 

The Cure: All members!  Get your t-shirt orders in ASAP to Mrs. Stein in the Science office.  Also, sign up for the Kellogg Cancer Event- spots are limited and going fast!

 

Food Rules: Food and beverages are not permitted outside of the cafeterias at any time.  Students in violation of this rule will be addressed by staff accordingly.  Continued violation of this rule may result in disciplinary action.

 

GBS Marching Band Garage Sale and Color Guard Car Wash: will be held on Saturday September 11th from 8 am to 4 pm in the GBS West Parking Lot. Donations of items for the sale are being accepted in the Band Room on school days starting on Friday September 3rd through 8 am on the date of the sale.  Rain date is Sunday September 12th (10 am - 5 pm).  Refreshments will be available for purchase. Homecoming 2010: This year’s homecoming theme is…….South Goes to Hogwarts!  Joins us as we celebrate the magical world of Harry Potter!  Start submitting your artwork to the SAO (due this Friday, Sept 10th), where it may appear on t-shirts, buttons, posters or programs.

 

Late Arrival/Signing In or Out: Don’t forget!  All students must “sign in” when coming to school late or returning from an appointment (this includes those of you who are enrolled in Early Bird P.E.), and equally important that all students “sign out” when leaving campus.  Please note that if your parent/guardian has “called you out” to leave campus during the school day—you are required to leave campus.  Students who “sign out” and remain in the building (i.e. cafeterias, library, etc.) are considered truant and may be seen by the deans for disciplinary action.

 

Nail Polish Sales: "Polish Up Your Titan Pride and Let It Shine!"  The GBS Marching Band Color Guard is selling Blue and Gold nail polish gift sets for $10/set.  Each set features OPI brand nail polish packaged in a fabric gift bag. Onward House Tutoring: There will be an informational meeting for all students interested in GBS's Onward House tutoring program on Tuesday, September 14th at 3:30 p.m. in Room 243.  If you would like to tutor but can't attend the meeting, please see Mr. Cowell in the English Department for a permission slip.  Our first tutoring trip to Onward House in Chicago will be on Tuesday, September 21st; we will leave GBS at 3:30 p.m. and return to school by 6:30 p.m.

 

Peer Group: Peer Group Peer Group!  Hey Freshmen!  This week we have a weird schedule, and here it is-

Tuesday groups will meet on Tuesday.

All Period 5 Thursday groups will meet during Period 5 on WEDNESDAY

All Period 4 and 6 Thursday groups will meet during Period 4 and 6 on FRIDAY

Check out the master list in the freshman cafeteria for your group and room location.

 

Project Earth:  will be meeting every Wednesday starting September 8th, after school in room 360. If you are interested in environmental issues, Project Earth is for you.

 

Student 2 Student: Join Student 2 Student for our first event at Libertyville Sports Complex on Saturday, September 11.  Afterwards, we will be heading to Culver's for desert.  We will meet in the Autos Courtyard at 6:30 and will be back around 11.  Permission slips and $10 are due in the Math Office by 8:00 AM on Friday, September 10 and can be found in the New Pit.  

 

West Parking Lot: ALL DRIVING STUDENTS!  If you are parked in the west (student) parking lot, you MUST move your car out of that lot before 4:30p.  No students are permitted to park in the west (student) lot after 4:30p on Tuesdays and Thursdays

 

Theatre/Performance

 

Drama Club: All students: The second Drama club meeting is Tuesday, September 14 at 3:30 in the auditorium. Come play an improv game. Learn about our field trip to Comedy Sportz Chicago, and enjoy some great snacks! All are welcome. Officers meet Monday.

 

Orchesis Dance Club: Do you love to dance?  Then join Orchesis - No Auditions!  There will be a short meeting Monday, September 13 at 3:30 in the Fieldhouse Dance Studio.

 

Speech Team: Are you interested in acting?  Do you think you're funny?  Do you like to write?  Want to express your ideas?  How about speaking for eight minutes straight without anyone telling you to be quiet?  The GBS Speech Team might be for you.  Come and hear what all the talk is about at a brief informational meeting on Wednesday, September 15th at 3:30 in room 198.  See Mr. Maranto in The Center with any questions!

College Visits: Attention All Seniors and Juniors…The first schedule announcing the college representatives who will be visiting us this year is listed below.  Please remember:  YOU MUST OBTAIN TEACHER PERMISSION to visit a college presentation.  Goldenrod permission slips are available in the College and Career Center.  Please ask your teacher to sign a permission slip at least one day ahead of time.  You can also check NAVIANCE for a complete list of schools that will be visiting through December.  Printed schedules will also be available in the College and Career Center.

Conditional Parking Available: We have some remaining parking spots open in the "Conditional Lot Only".  Come to the Deans Office to sign up for a lottery for those few remaining spots. The lottery drawing will be held on Wednesday, Sept 15th and the winners will be posted in the Deans Office on Thursday, Sept 16th. 

 

Senior YEARBOOK Photos: SENIORS:  Prestige will be in the lyceum (103) from 10:45 am until 3:00 pm on Friday, September 10th for YEARBOOK PHOTOS ONLY!!  If your name appears on the posters in the pits or outside the SAO, then you have not taken a yearbook photo.  Get to the Lyceum on the 10th during a free period or your lunch time.  This is your last chance to get a senior photo in the yearbook!
